Three Areas of Life You Can’t Take for Granted

Jul 4, 2025 | Generosity, Purpose, Stewardship

In Genesis 1:11, during the creation account, God speaks of seed-bearing plants rather than just trees or vegetation. At first glance, this may seem like an unnecessary detail, but it carries a powerful spiritual truth: Everything God gives us carries the potential for multiplication.

A seed can either be sown and bring a harvest or be buried and forgotten, leading to nothing. If you eat a banana that has no seeds, that’s the last banana—there’s no way for it to multiply. The same principle applies to the gifts, resources, and opportunitiesGod gives us.

God has entrusted three specific “seeds” to you. The question is: Are you planting them for His Kingdom or hiding them away?

Seed #1: Your Time – How Are You Using It?

God has given you a set amount of time on this earth. Unlike money, you can’t earn more of it—once a moment passes, it’s gone forever. That means how you spend your time matters.

Are You Honoring the Sabbath?

One of the most overlooked commandments is keeping the Sabbath. Many people who wouldn’t dream of stealing or committing adultery have no problem ignoring the Sabbath. Yet, it’s just as important.

The Sabbath is a 24-hour period dedicated to God. If you set aside time for Him, something incredible happens:

  • Your schedule falls into divine order.
  • You become more productive even though you’ve given up a full day.
  • You experience peace and renewal instead of burnout.

Many people claim they “don’t have time” for God, but when they sow time into Him, they find their time supernaturally multiplies.

Are You Serving Others?

Serving in the church is another way to sow time into God’s Kingdom. Volunteers who hold babies, greet people, or help in ministries aren’t just filling a role—they are planting seeds of faith that will reap a harvest of transformed lives.

If everyone in the church served, imagine the impact we could have! The question is, are you using your time to advance God’s work, or is it all spent on yourself?

Seed #2: Your Talent – Are You Developing It?

Every person has been given talents and abilities, but not everyone uses them for God. Your talent isn’t just for making a living—it’s for building the Kingdom.

How Are You Developing Your Gift?

Some people are naturally gifted at finances, music, craftsmanship, leadership, or hospitality. But raw talent isn’t enough—it needs to be cultivated.

If you’re a musician, practice. If you’re great with numbers, learn how to steward resources well. If you’re handy with tools, use your skills for the church.

The sermon highlights volunteers like Ed Murray and Jim Jensen, who built the tech booth for the church. They weren’t paid for their work, but their reward in Heaven is greater than any paycheck.

Your Gift Will Open Doors

Proverbs 18:16 says, “A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great.”

When you faithfully develop your talent and use it for God, He will create opportunitiesfor you. Work hard in obscurity, and in the right season, your gift will make a way for you.

Are you sharpening your talent for God’s glory, or is it sitting dormant?

Seed #3: Your Money – Are You Trusting God With It?

The moment money is mentioned, some people get uncomfortable. Why? Because many churches have misused financial teachings. But the truth is, God doesn’t need your money—He wants your heart.

What Happens When You Give?

Tithing (giving 10% of your income) isn’t a donation—it’s returning what belongs to God.

When my wife and I started tithing in 1998, we didn’t do it to earn more money. We did it to gain more peace, and that’s exactly what God gave us. Over time, we saw financial blessings, but the biggest blessing was freedom from anxiety about money.

Financial Freedom Isn’t Just Wealth—It’s Peace

Some people think that giving to God will make them rich. That’s not the point. Sometimes, God blesses people financially for His purposes. But in most cases, the real wealth is peace—the freedom to trust that God always provides.

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 says:
“Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously… God loves a cheerful giver.”

God’s economy is built on faith. When you sow money into His Kingdom, you’re investing in eternal impact. And you’ll always have more than enough because God overflows His blessings on generous hearts.

Are you holding tightly to what God has given you, or are you sowing it back into His work?

You Will Be Held Accountable

At the end of your life, you won’t be judged by how much time, talent, or money you had—but by what you did with it.

  • Did you waste time on things that didn’t matter?
  • Did you let your talent go undeveloped?
  • Did you hoard wealth instead of trusting God?

Each of us will stand before God, and He will ask what we did with the seeds He entrusted to us.

It’s Time to Sow

The good news? It’s never too late to start sowing.

  • Give your time—honor the Sabbath and serve in the church.
  • Develop your talents—use them for God’s Kingdom.
  • Trust God with your finances—give generously and watch Him provide.

When you sow into God’s Kingdom, you’ll reap a harvest of blessing—not just in this life, but for eternity.

So, what are you doing with the seeds God has given you?
